What to expect from Guernsey
Located in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy, Guernsey's closeness to France gives it a distinctly Gallic flavour and the weather in spring, summer and autumn can be unseasonably warm when compared to the mainland.
Most famous for its beautiful coastline, the island has 27 different bays to enjoy from long sandy beaches to hidden coves. The south coast is ringed with stunning cliff formations perfect for exploration on foot.
Guernsey is also steeped in history with the beautiful harbour, cobbled streets and Regency architecture of St Peter Port just some of the many picturesque highlights. Other attractions include the 800-year-old Castle Cornet which stands guard over the harbour and Hauteville House, the one-time residence of Les Miserables author Victor Hugo. Elsewhere there is evidence of the German occupation of the island in World War II.
With wonderful seafood and locally grown produce, Guernsey is a treat for food lovers, with the island’s many restaurants just one more reason to enjoy the relaxed pace of this Channel Islands gem.
