Travelling with a Family

Here at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, we understand how important it is for those flying as a family, to have a smooth and seamless experience at the airport. We are happy to assist and help those travelling with us in any way possible, to make your time at Liverpool Airport as easy and straightforward as possible.

From breastfeeding within the airport, baby changing facilities, taking baby food through security to child friendly places to eat and drink at the airport, we have a variety of options available to ensure all families are happy and comfortable during their time with us.

Depending on the airline you are flying with, we advise you to contact them directly a couple of days before your flight if you have any questions regarding your flight and traveling with children, or if you require special assistance.

Travelling with a baby

The majority of our airlines don’t allow babies less than 2 weeks old to travel on an aeroplane; however, we would recommend contacting the airline directly to ask them if you are unsure. An infant is classed as a baby under the age of 2, and a child is classed as anyone between the age of 2 and 16. Babies under the age of 2 don’t need their own seat on a flight – they are welcome to sit on your lap instead. Don’t forget that everyone needs a boarding pass to fly, including babies, so ensure the little ones are checked in as well as yourself.

Baby changing and feeding facilities at Liverpool John Lennon Airport

You will find dedicated baby changing facilities throughout the airport, with our newest family facilities located on the Upper Retail Level. Breastfeeding is welcomed throughout the terminal, however, if you prefer to feed in private, a dedicated feeding room is available on the Upper Retail Level.

Liverpool Airport is family friendly

Liverpool John Lennon Airport prides itself on being family and child friendly. We understand that travelling with children can sometimes be quite stressful, but we are on hand to give you any assistance you may need. Along with our baby changing facilities and dedicated feeding room, we also have plenty of restaurants with child friendly menus, such as Frankie & Benny’s and The Kissing Gate. Taking baby milk and baby food through security at Liverpool Airport

When you are flying with a baby, you're allowed to take enough baby food and/or baby milk for the journey, even if that is over the 100ml limit for liquids. They may be opened for testing at security. For more information on the types of baby food and milk you can take through security, click here.

If you would prefer to order your baby formula or food to be picked up at the airport, you’re in luck! Boots offers and in-store ordering service via their website; choose your products and pay online, and your items can be picked up on the day of your flight. Boots is located in the Departure Lounge after Security, on both the Upper Level and Lower Level.

Taking prams or car seats on the plane

You can take your child’s car seat with you when traveling from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, but it is important to check which car seats are allowed within the cabin of your aircraft and which will need to be checked into the hold by contacting the airline you are traveling with before your departure date.

Some car seats will be permitted to be stored within the cabin of the aircraft but some car seats, such as extended rear facing car seats may need to be stowed away in the hold. Each airline will have their own policies regarding prams and car seats so you will need to contact the airline directly to prevent any issues on the day of travel.
