LJLA Faces It's Busiest Weekend This Year!

LJLA is gearing up for what is expected to be its busiest weekend this year. Around 75,000 passengers are forecast to be moving through the Airport during Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

The prolonged wet summer is believed to have accelerated the drive out of the UK to sunnier climes. Favourite holiday hotspots for this Bank Holiday weekend include cities such as Belfast and Amsterdam; the Spanish sunspots of Malaga, Barcelona, Palma, Alicante and Madrid; along with destinations in France including Nice, Limoges and Nantes.

A range of destinations are on offer from LJLA with over 75 scheduled and charter routes currently available. In June, Ryanair announced four new services will commence this winter to Gdansk and Scezecin in Poland, Knock in Ireland and Faro in Portugal.

Passengers are being asked for their help to reduce waiting times by being aware of restrictions on liquids that are still in place. Small quantities of liquids may be carried, but only within separate containers each of which with a capacity no greater than 100ml. These containers must be brought to the airport contained in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity must be no larger than 20cm x 20cm. Under the current security measures all passengers can only take one piece of cabin baggage each through the security point and it must fit into a bag measuring 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

Pat Burns, Head of Security and Terminal Services, said: "We still have a large number of passengers continuing to turn up with liquids over 100ml in their hand-luggage. Passengers needs to be re-educated and the restrictions on liquids should become a normal part of any holiday check list i.e. passport, tickets, money, and 100ml liquid rule. This time of year is an extremely busy period for LJLA and passengers need to be better prepared before leaving home."
