Staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport are urging passengers to think carefully when packing their bags before coming to the Airport to go on holiday at what is now the Airport’s busiest time of the year. In particular the Airport is keen to remind passengers about restrictions that remain in force regarding liquids which are placed in hand luggage.

The issue was highlighted last week when Security Staff were amazed to discover one passenger attempting to carry 13 bottles containing various liquids totalling over 2,400ml, in their hand luggage – despite numerous signs and staff personally reminding passengers of the latest restrictions, as they approached the security search area. All the items including 4 bottles of sun cream, 5 bottles of insect repellent, shampoo and conditioner were subsequently confiscated as none complied with the current security regulations.

All items in hand luggage are subject to search as part of the aviation security measures that are currently in place at all UK Airports. To avoid disappointment at the security search point and to help keep security queues to a minimum, passengers should keep items such as liquids and creams in hand luggage to a minimum and only then if they comply with the regulations.

Restrictions on carrying liquids through security have been in place for almost two years. Liquids, gels and aerosols can be carried in individual 100ml containers which fit comfortably in a re-sealable clear bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm. However, passengers are advised to put liquids including perfumes and toiletries within their hold luggage at check-in.

Passengers are also reminded that they are limited to one item of hand luggage through the security screening point when travelling from LJLA, with a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

Andy Gower, Airport Director at LJLA said: "The summer holidays are an extremely busy time for JLA, therefore to avoid costly mistakes for passengers and to keep queuing times to a minimum, we’re asking passengers to come prepared and to think about what they are carrying in their hand luggage. We are asking all passengers to help us, to help them and avoid some of the disappointment we have already seen in the past few days."

"When items are discovered in hand luggage which exceed the volumes allowed or do not comply with the restrictions, we have no alternative but to confiscate them, slowing down the security process for other passengers and causing disappointment for the individual concerned."

"All UK Airports are adhering to the current security measures and the guidelines in place are there to help passengers better prepare for their journey. We want all our passengers to enjoy the start of their journey particularly at this time of the year and with a bit of forward planning we hope passengers will get their summer break off to a great start." Andy continued.
