Airport Pay dispute resolved

Talks between Airport Management and Trade Union officials regarding the recent pay dispute have now ended. All issues have been resolved and no strike action is planned.

Following a number of meetings in recent weeks both the Airport Company, GMB and UNITE unions have today reached a settlement to the pay dispute with relevant employees to receive a 4.4% pay increase backdated to 1st April 2007.

The Airport Company, the Unions and employees are now committed to moving forward and working together closely in order to take the business forward and to continue to develop the important strategic role that Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) now plays in the region’s air transport industry.

Neil Pakey, LJLA’s Managing Director commented, “Whilst this has been a difficult period for all involved in this dispute, I firmly believe that the commitment from both sides to resolve this amicably has brought us closer together. Whilst there has been a difference of opinions over certain issues, the Airport has forged a much closer working relationship with employees which can only be a good thing and there is now a real desire to move the business forward.”

In a joint statement, Eddie Parker, GMB Union Organiser and Carol Devereux, UNITE Regional Organiser added: “We are obviously very pleased with the outcome of today’s productive talks. The Airport Company has met all the requests of our membership and the view of the Trade Unions is that this dispute is now over completing this year’s pay negotiations. As we now look to the future, the unions and our members are committed to working together with the Airport Company for the good of the business. ”
