Liverpool Airport 75th Anniversary Celebration & Liverpool Aviation Fair 2008

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the opening of Liverpool Airport on the 3rd July 1933, the Friends of Liverpool Airport (FoLA) and The Jetstream Club are jointly organising a special celebration day at the site of the landmark grade II listed former terminal building.

The event on Sunday 29th June will be centred at the famous art deco former Liverpool Airport Terminal, which is now the multi-award winning Liverpool Marriott Hotel South. The event will be open to the public between 10am and 5pm. There will be an entry charge of £2 per person or £5 per car with proceeds shared between the Jetstream aircraft preservation trust and other local charities.

For 2008 the Jetstream Club’s established Aviation Fair will incorporate the Liverpool Airport 75th Anniversary Celebration. There will also be special displays at the ‘new’ terminal of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, together with opportunities to fly in vintage passenger aircraft – hopefully both the D. H. Rapide (the type similar to that which flew the first passenger service in 1933) and the D.H Dove (to book contact www.airatlantique.co.uk/). For visitors to the event, a special free ‘period bus service’ will link the City Centre via Liverpool South Parkway to the Marriott Hotel South and operate between the ‘old’ and ‘new’ Airport terminal sites throughout the day. It is hoped that helicopter pleasure flights will also be available. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be making a special appearance at the event with a Spitfire, Hurricane and DC3 Dakota aircraft.

Other planned attractions will feature static aircraft including the Jetstream Club’s Bristol Britannia and J41 Jetstream and helicopters; aircraft simulator, historic vehicles, trade stands; history of Liverpool Airport photographic and aviation art exhibitions; lectures and films about the history of the Airport; Airport and FoLA stand; tours of the Hotel and access to visit the historic spectators balcony at the old terminal.
