Ryanair comes to the aid of local students to help deliver ‘Peace Path’
Photo and interview Opportunity
Venue: John Lennon statue,
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Tomorrow, (Friday 13th March) 13 students from Holly Lodge Girls’ College in West Derby, Liverpool and their teachers will be hand delivering a 13 piece mosaic ‘Peace Path’ to Castlebar in County Mayo, Ireland, courtesy of Ryanair who will be flying the party over to Ireland West Airport Knock from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, for no charge.
The girls who are between 13 – 18 years old, made the mosaic Peace Path as part of a project for the Capital of Culture, but were unsure as to how to deliver the mosaic which is to be laid as part of a ‘Peace Path’ on the new, Castlebar Riverside Walk.
Upon hearing of the College’s problem, Ryanair Europe’s largest low fares airline, kindly stepped in and offered to fly the students and their 13 piece mosaic, each weighing 8lbs, helping them in their worthy cause.
Any media who wish to attend this photo and interview opportunity should attend at the John Lennon statue in the Airport terminal building for 10:00am.
Notes for editors:
Students at Holly Lodge Girls’ college made the mosaic Peace Path as part of a project started in 2007, when teachers and pupils from the College looked at opportunities to make a major and lasting input to the 2008 European Capital of Culture programme and to highlight and mark the UN Decade of Educating for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the World’s Children in the 21st Century.
The students wanted to create a lasting public work of art celebrating the message of International Friendship and established links with students in Castlebar through the Comenius Partnership which provides opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum.
