Bring a Bag to Work Day
Liverpool John Lennon Airport staff are clearing out their wardrobes in support of local charity Zöe’s Place – a hospice for babies.

With budgets getting tighter, it’s not just families and companies feeling the pinch; Charities are also affected by the credit crunch. People have less money to spare for good causes. Luckily, there are still recession friendly ways to support a good local cause like Zöe’s Place Baby Hospice.

Teaming up with Clothes Aid, a professional clothing collection company, Liverpool John Lennon Airport is raising funds for Zöe’s Place by making Tuesday 31 March 2009 ‘Bring a Bag to Work Day’ for 350 staff members.
The airport’s staff will be bringing bags filled with unwanted clothes, shoes and bedding to work in support of the charity. All the filled bags will then be picked up by Clothes Aid who will turn the clothes into valuable funds for Zöe’s Place.

Clare Nelson, CSR Advisor at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity not only for our employees to give their wardrobes a good spring clean but to also support and raise much needed funds for Zöe’s Place Baby Hospice which is one of the Airport’s chosen charities."

Zöe’s Place in Liverpool is one of only two baby hospices in the UK and has been caring for 0-5-year-olds with life-threatening conditions for over 14 years.

Clothes Aid guarantees to raise a minimum of £25,000 for Zöe’s Place in the first year. Through the house-to-house collection scheme, Clothes Aid has been raising funds for Zöe’s Place since late February. Distributing T-shirt shaped tags that householders attach to their filled bags and leave out for collection on specified days.

Liverpool Airport staff will also be supporting the environment. By giving their old clothes for reuse and recycling, they will help to divert some of the large amounts of textiles that normally end up in landfill each year. The fashion hungry British public usually bin around 63% of their textile waste every year.*
With the support of John Lennon Airport staff, Clothes Aid’s fundraising for Zöe’s Place Baby Hospice will really take off to a flying start.
