The first bank holiday weekend of 2009 is set to be John Lennon Airport’s (LJLA) busiest weekend of the year so far as passengers join in the traditional Easter ‘getaway’.
Staff at the Airport are gearing up for a busy weekend with between 55,000 -60,000 passengers expected to travel through the Airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday, to a range of destinations across Europe and beyond.
Despite the current economic climate, with flights to over 50 destinations available from LJLA over the holiday period, passengers appear to be continuing to take advantage of the low cost fares and escaping to a range of destinations, often in search of some early Spring sunshine or for some late Winter sports. Popular flights appear to include sunnier Mediterranean resorts in mainland Spain and the Balearics, city breaks to Rome and Paris and for the skiers; Innsbruck and Grenoble. Whilst many are taking advantage of the hundreds of onward connections via Amsterdam, with the new KLM service.
Staff are also urging passengers to think carefully when packing their bags before coming to the Airport to go on holiday. In particular, the Airport is keen to remind passengers about restrictions that remain in force regarding liquids which are placed in hand luggage.
Andy Gower, Airport Director commented, "With the economy continuing to dominate the news, it looks like a well deserved break for many is what’s needed. Volumes of passengers jetting off from here have been noticeably higher this week already.
Passengers appear to be looking to cheer themselves up, escaping to enjoy the long weekend for either some warmer weather, late season skiing and even for City breaks to the many destinations currently available from Liverpool."
