easyJet, the North West’s favourite airline, have introduced a brand new £20m Airbus A320 aircraft to its base at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) which will operate its new routes to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Since opening a base at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 1997 the airline has operated a fleet of eight Airbus 319s (with 156 seats) and the new Airbus 320 is a larger aircraft seating 180 passengers and gives the airline the ability to fly longer distances, which means easyJet can now offer not only short haul European destinations, but also medium haul routes to areas such as The Canaries.

To help celebrate the occasion, staff at LJLA surprised the first two passengers to board the aircraft with a Bottle of Champagne. Sylvia and Steve Harrrison from Burnley, were travelling to Fuerteventura whilst celebrating their wedding anniversary.

With its nine Liverpool based aircraft, easyJet now offers a choice of 23 European destinations from LJLA, with three new routes to Bordeaux, Dubrovnik and Naples launched earlier this year, and 2.4 million passengers from the region have flown with the airline in the past 12 months.

Trevor Spinks, easyJet’s UK commercial manager said, "The introduction of this new, bigger aircraft and new routes to the Canary Islands reflect our continued commitment to the 22.5 million customers who have flown with us over the past 12 years.

"We’ve listened to customer feedback calling for more routes to the sun and are confident our two new routes to the Canaries will be a huge success, and we plan to continue to expand the choice for our passengers in the North of England."

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Peel Airports added, "easyJet has been an important part of our success over recent years and will continue to be so in the future. The new aircraft highlights the continuing importance that easyJet place on its Liverpool operation and the confidence that they have in us, despite the tough economic conditions.

"easyJet’s growing fleet at Liverpool, will give our passengers extra frequencies to the ever popular destinations that they serve."

The new route to Fuerteventura, which launched on Monday 2nd November, will provide a three times weekly service with prices starting from as little as £39.99 (one-way, including taxes).

The new route to Lanzarote which launches on Tuesday 3rd November will provide a three times weekly service with prices starting from as little as £40.99 (one-way, including taxes).
