KLM Royal Dutch Airlines marks the commencement of its additional fourth daily service from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) to Amsterdam by celebrating in style with passengers and staff.
On hand to meet with passengers at check-in was Boet Kreiken, KLM City Hopper’s Managing Director and Anko van der Werff, the airline’s Head of Commercial, who joined airport staff to offer a range of Chinese speciality food to departing passengers in recognition of the improved worldwide links to destinations such as China.
The increased frequency brings extra capacity to the route and is in addition to improved timings for the original three daily flights, creating a schedule that will increase long haul connectivity via KLM’s award winning hub, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
These improvements come just over a year after the inaugural route launch and are testament to KLM’s commitment to the Liverpool region. The faster long haul connections mean that travellers in the region can now take advantage of smooth and seamless travel to destinations such as Shanghai, Johannesburg and Mexico.
Highlighting the improved accessibility that the KLM flights have brought to the region, passengers checking in yesterday afternoon included a group of Beatles fans from Norway who had been visiting Liverpool and a party of Leeds Utd fans from Finland who had travelled over for their team’s final match of the season on Saturday.
The new flight schedule is now (all times are local):

Commenting on the new flights, Boet Kreiken says, “the new and improved schedule is great news for Liverpool and it was fantastic to celebrate the first fourth frequency flight with passengers from the region. This additional flight is a testament to the strength of our service from Merseyside and our improved schedule allows faster connectivity for passengers looking to travel on both our intercontinental and European networks via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
KLM’s main aim for the Liverpool service was to offer flexibility, greater connectivity and seamless access to global destinations and we are delighted to have delivered on all three counts.”
Neil Pakey, Peel Airports Group Deputy CEO adds, “Over the past year KLM has given the region’s business community the opportunity to start long haul journeys to hundreds of worldwide destinations from the convenience of their local airport. This additional service will give travelers even greater flexibility and choice of long haul destinations, as well as helping to improve the standing of the Liverpool City region on the world stage – which is great timing knowing that the team are out promoting just that over at the Shanghai World Expo right now.”
