Graham Douglas, 25, from Liverpool has been named the face of easyJet’s new route from Liverpool to the Isle of Man after being voted the North West’s favourite Douglas.
easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, started operating direct flights from Liverpool to the Isle of Man on Friday 21st May 2010. To celebrate the new route, and in honour of the island’s capital city, the low fares carrier conducted a month-long search to find the region’s best Douglas.
Graham beat more than 40 entrants to a place in the grand final, alongside three other people with the first name or surname Douglas, and finally bagged the job after impressing the voting public at Liverpool John Lennon Airport with his rendition of 80’s pop classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ by Rick Astley.
He has been a regular visitor to the Isle of Man for the past 15 years – enjoying walking and golfing holidays whilst catching up with family on the island. He completed the Isle of Man half marathon last year and has made it his mission to run it on an annual basis.
All five finalists have received a free weekend for two on the Isle of Man courtesy of easyJet with Graham and girlfriend, Aisle, scooping a year’s worth of free flights to the island to visit their namesake.
Graham comments: “I am thrilled to have won the competition to become the face of easyJet’s new route from Liverpool to the Isle of Man – the other competitors were tough to beat.
“Thanks to easyJet I can visit my family on the island more regularly and am looking forward to celebrating with them for the rest of the weekend.”
Ali Gayward, easyJet commercial manager adds: “All the Douglas’s were worthy contenders but in the end Graham won the crowd over with his convincing impersonation of 80’s pop idol, Rick Astley.”
“It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate the new Isle of Man route from Liverpool by providing Graham with the chance to regularly experience one of Britain’s most unspoilt holiday spots.”
The runners-up were:
Douglas Christie, 25, Stoke-on-Trent
Douglas Wix, 55, Liverpool
Douglas Dale, 57, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria
