easyJet has marked flying a milestone of 25 million passengers through Liverpool John Lennon Airport by rewarding the 25 millionth passenger with free flights for a year.

Helen Taylor, from Huntington in Chester, was surprised at check-in this morning when she booked onto an easyJet flight to Barcelona with her daughter Lauren. easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, Ali Gayward, was on hand to congratulate her with a special boarding card entitling Helen to free flights up to November 2011.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport became easyJet’s second base in October 1997 when the low-fares airline arrived in the region four years after its initial launch in Luton. The two original routes from Liverpool to Amsterdam and Nice carried around 130,000 passengers in their first year of operation and today 10 aircraft operating from the base provide access to more than 30 destinations.

Helen Taylor comments: “We were looking forward to our trip to Barcelona, which was an early 14th birthday present for Lauren, and being surprised at check-in to become the 25 millionth passenger has given our holiday a fantastic start!

“With free flights for a whole year, I am planning on taking many more mini-breaks with my daughter and discover as many new destinations as possible!”

Ali Gayward, UK Commercial Manager for easyJet adds: “We’re extremely proud of flying 25 million passengers through Liverpool since we launched here in 1999, and what better way to celebrate than rewarding our 25 millionth passenger with such a great prize.

“Helen is now busy picking from more than 30 destinations to make the most of her jet-set lifestyle for the next 12 months. We’d like to pass on our congratulations from everyone at easyJet.”

Earlier this month easyJet announced that is to operate three new routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Brussels, Salzburg and Tallinn – bringing its total number of destinations accessible from the region to 32. The airline also celebrates its 15th anniversary this year.
