Following the success of an initiative started last year aimed at bringing the fun back to air travel, Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) and its many retail partners have again been laying on free entertainment, discounts and giveaways for passengers travelling through the Airport today ahead of Valentine’s Day.
With many passengers taking the opportunity to get away for a few days for romantic Valentines breaks, a host of retailers throughout the Airport have been joining in the fun. Many staff have been in fancy dress offering various customer discounts and Valentines related food and drink specialities, whilst beauticians have been on hand to give makeovers to help passengers look good as well as feel good.
A harpist has also been softly serenading passengers ahead of their flight, whilst those travelling with children were able to make the most of a magician and face painter who was there to keep younger passengers entertained too.
The Airport is running a year round program of similar initiatives following the success of other themed events last year, all coinciding with various special dates and celebrations. Other events already ear marked for later in the year will coincide with the Grand National, the Liverpool Boat Show and the Mathew Street Festival.
Matthew Thomas, Commercial Director for Peel Airports commented, "Our ‘Fun Friday’ events last year were so successful that we’ve decided to develop a whole calendar of events here at LJLA for 2011, all aimed at giving our passengers a departure to remember and putting the fun back in to travelling from here on Fridays."
Work on £12.4m improvements to the airport departure lounge have largely been completed now with new retailers moving in to fit out and develop their areas over the coming weeks ahead of the busy summer season.
