John Lennon and Yoko Ono look-a-likes Alan James and Veninia Johnson joined easyJet at Liverpool John Lennon Airport to officially launch the airline’s first flight from Liverpool to Gibraltar.
Famed as the location of the real John and Yoko’s wedding more than 40 years ago, Gibraltar has strong links with Liverpool thanks to its Beatles connection that was immortalised in the lyrics of ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko’ in 1969.
The new route, which launched on Tuesday 29 March, will provide Liverpool travellers with a three-times-weekly service to ‘The Rock’ for as little as £27.99 (one-way, including taxes).
To celebrate the launch of its new route easyJet is offering free return flights from Liverpool to Gibraltar to five local couples who share the same wedding anniversary as the famous pair. The first five couples to provide proof that they were married on 20 March will receive complimentary return flights to Gibraltar with the low-fares airline.
Ali Gayward, UK commercial manager at easyJet comments: "This is a great opportunity for people in the North West to take advantage of our brand new route to Gibraltar and enjoy all that this unique destination has to offer.
"We’re calling for anyone who shares the same wedding anniversary as John and Yoko to contact us for their chance to scoop this fantastic prize."
Couples wishing to enter easyJet’s competition need to email a copy of their marriage certificate to easyjet@beattiegroup.com by 30 April 2011.
easyJet has also launched its winter schedule this week with 29 low fare routes from Liverpool. Flights are now on sale enabling passengers to secure the best fares early for travel from 30 October to March 2012. Routes on offer from Liverpool include winter sun destinations such as Lanzarote and Malta and popular ski routes such as Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon and Salzburg.
