Wizz Air, the largest low fare – low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, has announced a new service that will link Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) with Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania from next summer. As part of a growth in services from Vilnius, flights to and from Liverpool will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, commencing on 28th May 2012.
This new destination becomes Wizz Air’s fourth route to be served from Liverpool having commenced operations from here in late 2004, with flights currently operating to Warsaw, Gdansk and Katowice in Poland.
This latest addition to the network of European cities served directly from LJLA, means that the Airport will soon offer the region’s passengers comprehensive links with all the major cities in the Baltic states, complementing existing services to Tallinn in Estonia, Riga in Latvia and Kaunas also in Lithuania.
Vilnius is already proving popular as a value for money, City break destination for travellers who are on the lookout for new locations to explore. It is a modern, cosmopolitan European City with diverse architecture and a historical City Centre with timings of flights from and to Liverpool ideal for passengers looking to get away for a weekend break. Fares start from £21.99 one way (incl taxes).
Like Liverpool, Vilnius is a former European Capital of Culture having taken over this status jointly with Linz in Austria in 2009, after Liverpool’s success the year before.
Chris Harcombe, Peel Airport’s Aviation Development Manager commented, "We have worked closely with Wizz Air for some time and they are now well established as the airline of choice for many Central and East European passengers.
This latest addition to their Liverpool operations is a great destination for both business and leisure passengers. The combination of their low fares and a value for money, attractive destination such as Vilnius, should prove popular with the region’s passengers."
