Merseyside School takes advantage of KLM’s links to the world

Pupils from a Merseyside school have taken advantage of KLM’s flights to Amsterdam Schiphol from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this week as they look to continue their partnership with a School in Hong Kong as part of a cultural exchange.

Litherland High School and Fukien Secondary School have been working together exchanging students since 2004. However, KLM’s regular flights from Liverpool to their Amsterdam hub with convenient onward connections to Hong Kong, means students can now start their journeys from closer to home.

Ten students and three staff departed LJLA yesterday afternoon as part of a ten day visit to Hong Kong, where they will experience school and home life in Hong Kong and attend lessons with their Hong Kong school friends, including English, Art, Music and Food Technology. Students will also visit some of the main attractions in Hong Kong and will share cultural experiences including Dim Sum lunches and visiting the homes of their new friends.

Each July, the students from Fukien Secondary School visit Litherland High, where they stay with host families and attend school, together with visits to Liverpool, Chester and elsewhere.

Alison Burns, Marketing & Events Manager for Litherland High School commented, "Until KLM started to run flights from Liverpool to Amsterdam we had to fly from Manchester or London which is a lot less convenient than flying from our local airport.

"This visit is a tremendous opportunity for the students and we look forward to being able to return this good will and welcome students from Hong Kong when they arrive at LJLA for their visit to Merseyside next year."
