The arrival later today of Real Madrid at LJLA will be the first of a number of football flights arriving and departing from the Airport this week with 2,500 additional passengers flying in or out for LFC and EFC European matches

With both of the City’s teams involved in important European matches this week, approximately 2,500 additional passengers are expected to pass through the Airport on flights chartered specifically for football fans. Real Madrid and their supporters will be flying over for Liverpool’s Champions League game on Wednesday first, whilst Everton and their supporters will be heading out to Lille in France for their Europa League encounter on Thursday

As well as Spanish fans travelling from Madrid, a group of Liverpool fans from Norway are also flying over especially for the match. A flight has been chartered from Oslo and is due to arrive at LJLA later today with fans spending time visiting the City ahead of the game tomorrow.

Chartered Flights will be operated into Liverpool John Lennon during this week by Iberia, Swift Air, Jet Time, Titan Airways and Thomas Cook. Thomas Cook Sports, the official travel partner of Everton FC will be operating two dedicated flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Lille, whilst Swift Air will operate two services from Madrid bringing in Real Madrid fans ahead of the Champions League fixture.

Scheduled flights between Liverpool and Madrid and Paris with easyJet have also experienced high demand.
Robin Tudor commented, ”Football related air traffic is big business these days and with both our local clubs back in Europe this season we will see lots of additional passengers taking advantage of flights from their local airport as well as welcoming visiting supporters from across Europe, all travelling to and from matches by air.”
