Today management at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) joined with senior representatives from Romanian airline Blue Air and invited guests from the region’s business and tourism community, to celebrate the airline’s inaugural service from Liverpool to Bucharest – the North West’s only direct scheduled service to the Romanian capital.

Celebrations commenced with a traditional arch of water aircraft ‘baptism’ performed by the Airport’s Emergency Response Service to welcome the arrival of the Romanian airline’s first aircraft to Liverpool. This was followed by each arriving passenger receiving tourist information about the Liverpool City Region, presented by representatives from Marketing Liverpool.

Flights to Bucharest depart on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays departing at 10:00 on Mondays and 17:45 on Wednesdays and Fridays. Blue Air announced in October that they will also commence a twice weekly service from Liverpool to Bacau in North East Romania from the end of March 2015.

Andrew Cornish, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “Today’s celebrations here at the Airport are hopefully just the start of a great relationship between Blue Air and ourselves. It’s also good that business and tourism stakeholders from across the region attended to welcome Blue Air to Liverpool and demonstrate to the airline the region’s support for this new route.”

Tudor Constantinescu, Chief Commercial Officer, Blue Air commented, “We are particularly happy to see our new route starting today as fruit of a joint collaboration with Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Business travelers and tourists will enjoy the benefit and comfort of a direct connection linking North West England with Romania. Shortening the travel time from Liverpool to Bucharest and later to Bacau creates in our view the premises of future economic, social and cultural cooperation and development to the benefit of both regions.”
