The first Bank Holiday period of the year this weekend coincides with the start of the busier summer schedules for airlines and staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) are gearing up for a busy few days ahead in the run up to the Easter holiday getaway.

It is likely to be the Airport’s busiest Easter for over 2 years with Liverpool John Lennon Airport forecasting a possible 6% increase in passenger throughput over the holiday period compared to Easter last year and passenger numbers back to levels last seen in 2013. This follows a successful February and March with passenger numbers up 4% and 8% respectively.

Over 90,000 passengers are expected to pass through the Airport this week including the Easter weekend, as passengers take the opportunity to fly between Liverpool and a host of destinations across Europe. The start of the Summer schedules for airlines will see a number of new services operate from Liverpool over the coming weeks, as well as increased frequencies on other more established routes.

There will be a total of 34 additional weekly departures this summer to new and existing destinations from Liverpool, compared to last year. New for Summer 2015 includes Bacau, Belfast City, Bucharest, Prague, Riga and Zante, with Blue Air, Flybe, Wizz Air and easyJet.

Sunshine hot spots are likely to be the most popular destinations this week, though the early Easter holiday period this year means that many passengers are likely to take advantage of flights to Winter ski destinations too.
As ever, Airport Management are keen to remind passengers departing from the Airport in the coming days, to allow plenty of time to pass through the terminal, as it is expected to be busy at peak times.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “The early Easter this year means that we expect the Airport to be busier over the coming days than in recent weeks with passengers jetting off on holiday and taking advantage of the increased numbers of flights available following the start of the busier summer schedules.

The increase in passenger volumes experienced over the past two months is likely to continue over the popular Easter period too as more passengers set off in search of some much needed warmer weather or late season skiing.”
