The Christmas and New Year ‘Getaway’ got off to a special start at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) this morning, with Santa making time during his hectic schedule to perform an opening ceremony like no other seen at the Airport before.
Before flying off to The North Pole later in the day, Santa helped the Airport celebrate a new addition to the passenger facilities, by tearing the loo roll and declaring the new suite of male and female toilets on the ground floor of the terminal to be officially open. A celebratory drinks reception in the toilets then followed.
Flushed with the recent success of 10 months of continued passenger growth, new airlines and new destinations, the Airport Company has recently been investing in new and improved facilities at LJLA. The new toilet suite is the latest area to be completed and an important part of an improved customer experience being developed by the Airport.
Costing around £300,000, the new toilets incorporate a fun, fresh and funky design utilising LED lighting, whilst contemporary trough sinks with integrated water, handwash and hand dry facilities, avoid separate wall mounted hand driers that often create water drips.
With an easy to clean tiled floor, an automatic toilet flush facility and the use of bright colours, LJLA believes these could be the region’s top toilets.
LJLA now has a growing reputation for being Faster, Easier and Friendlier and these latest improvements will complement the Airport’s best in class operational performance that already sees it top performance tables when it comes to the speed of security screening and baggage delivery times.
Andrew Cornish, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “We didn’t want a ‘bog standard’ opening, so thought we’d ask Santa as he passed through on his way to The North Pole to cut the ceremonial loo roll and open this latest improvement for our passengers.
Joking aside though, whilst this may seem a strange celebration, this is an important milestone for the Airport, as the previous toilets were symptomatic of the need to fix some of the basics in order to really improve the overall customer experience. This and other improvements including the replacement of the old carpets in the terminal have been talked about for some time and today’s celebrations are aimed at highlighting that we are now delivering on our commitments as we aim to create the Airport our region loves.”
