The start of school holidays this weekend sees the beginning of Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s (LJLA) busiest time of the year as thousands of passengers jet off abroad for their main holiday, taking advantage of the great choice of destinations available from their local airport.
Around 24,000 passengers are due to depart from the Airport this weekend alone – an increase of around 13% compared to the same time last year, with the vast majority heading to the sunshine resorts on the Mediterranean.
The Airport believes this is likely to be their busiest Summer for five years with around three quarters of a million passengers expected to travel through over the six week school holiday period with flights operating to 15 popular Mediterranean destinations and to the four main Canary islands.
Spanish resorts including Alicante, Palma and Malaga are expected to be amongst the most popular once again with high volumes of passenger traffic also expected on flights to the Algarve, the Greek Islands and the Canary Islands.
This latest increase in passenger numbers follows on from passenger growth seen throughout 2016, with numbers 15% higher for the first half of this year compared to 2015.
Airport management are once again reminding travellers to allow plenty of time to pass through the Airport during peak periods, recommending that passengers arrive at the Airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure time.
Robin Tudor, Head of PR at LJLA commented, “This is expected to be one of our busiest weekends of the year so far and it is likely to remain busy throughout the next 6 weeks, as the region’s holidaymakers choose to take advantage of the Airport’s convenient, hassle free environment and the many great value for money direct flights from here.
Whilst queue times at the Airport are some of the shortest around, we do advise that passengers should allow plenty of time to pass through the Airport at this particularly busy time as well as leaving plenty of time for their journey to the Airport too.”
