Flipping Delicious Pancakes

Food and travel go hand in hand; if you really want to immerse yourself in the culture of the country you have travelled to then you have to discover what the locals enjoy eating!

One of our favourite dishes is pancakes and it’s not just us Brits that enjoy eating them on Shrove Tuesday. In celebration of Pancake Day 2018, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite international pancake dishes that you can enjoy all year round on your travels!

Nalesniki

If you are in Warsaw or Gdansk then you must sample Polish Nalesniki, which are a crepe-like pancakes. Whether you prefer savoury or sweet there’s a choice for you! Once you’ve chosen your topping they are either baked or pan-fried depending on your preference.

Crepes

Delicate and very scrumptious, French crepes are often eaten as a snack. If you have a sweet tooth you can’t go wrong with a classic crepe suzette topped with orange sauce. Savoury options are available too – from ham and cheese to spinach and eggs you will be spoilt for choice! Make sure you visit a crepe restaurant if you are travelling to Paris or Bordeaux.

Tiganites

These Greek pancakes are slightly thicker than crepes and are usually served for breakfast or desert. We suggest topping them with honey, cinnamon and yoghurt when you are on holiday in Rhodes or Zakynthos - delicious!

Pannenkoek

This Dutch pancake originates from the Netherlands and are often eaten during lunch or dinner time. If you are travelling to Amsterdam you must visit a pannenkoek restaurant, which offer a great variety of flavours for you to choose from.

Palacsinta

This Hungarian dish is usually enjoyed as a main dish or dessert. A dash of wine is usually added to the batter and is often flambéed! Be sure to sample this local dish on your travels to Budapest.

English Pancakes

We can’t talk about pancakes without mentioning our own version! If you have taken a long weekend break to the Isle of Man this Shrove Tuesday, then don’t forget to order some traditional English pancakes topped with sugar and lemon for a mouth-watering treat.
